KIDS AND DRUGS

Research has shown that the earlier parents talk to their kids about alcohol and drug use, the less likely kids will be to use and abuse. Even if kids have already tried drugs, informed parents can act to save their kids from drug abuse. The Employee Assistance Program can help to support parents and find the right resources.

END OF LIFE DECISION MAKING IN MASSACHUSETTS

Balancing the myriad of competing interests in end of life care is daunting. The patient's wishes, as expressed in planning documents, may differ from those wishes expressed by the patient's family at the end of life. The speaker will review Massachusetts law regarding end of life issues, including the differences among Health Care Proxy, Living Wills, HIPAA Directives, Powers of Attorney, Legal Guardian and Legal Conservator. He will also address how legal decisions are made when no guardian or health care proxy is in place. This workshop will provide an overview and will review strategies to obtain proper planning documents and maximize the opportunity that the patient's wishes will be carried out with dignity for both the patient and the family. Please bring your lunch and join this very important discussion.

SAFETY AT WORK

Domestic violence doesn't stay at home when its victims go to work. Batterers often harass or otherwise interfere with victims at work. Injuries, lack of sleep, and fear often prevent victims from being fully productive and able to maintain employment. It is crucial that employers address domestic abuse as a serious, recognizable, and preventable problem like thousands of other workplace health and safety issues that affect a business and its bottom line. This seminar will help raise awareness about the need to think about domestic violence coming to the workplace, and learn about the available resources, referrals and interventions for the BWH community.
