AVOIDING BURNOUT:  FIVE STRATEGIES FOR RESTORING WORK-LIFE BALANCE

What does work-life balance really mean, and what does it actually require of you?  In part it involves eliminating the energy drains in your life – the things that drag you down and drive you nuts – while doing more of the things that restore you and bring you joy.  This presentation offers a framework for understanding why it’s so critical to everyone in your life – and most especially you - that you keep your batteries fully charged.  It offers five practical, hands-on strategies for how to pull this off when the demands on your time are constant and insatiable.  In addition, you'll examine some of the classic themes underlying busy people's often ambivalent attitudes toward work-life balance and the ineffective behaviors that can result.

TOO SOON TO RETIRE?  CREATING YOUR NEXT STEP IN A SEASON OF UNCERTAINTY

With vast numbers of Baby Boomers reaching traditional retirement age, and with increased longevity and health making it possible to live with vitality for 20-30 more years, you watch your savings dwindle in the wake of financial turmoil. If you are a 60-something individual, you might be considering what’s next as alternatives to the full-time leisure you’ve been taught to expect. Many of you seek challenge, fulfillment, and continuing to earn income in different ways from your parents’ generation of “Golden Agers.” In this hour, participants will whet their appetites about planning ahead for the lifestyle they want, playing with ideas about passions, values, and goals.
